Massage on the Hop

Steve Elliott was born and raised in Newcastle, NSW Australia. He was the second of four boys and grew up very active in sports. He excelled in soccer and represented his region as a teenager on a regional team.

As an adult, Steve found cycling. He started this sport just for fun, but after a friend spent time training him in technique, he found he had a real talent for riding. Because of his build, he became a sprinter and in his semi-professional races, crossed the finish line in first place many, many times, and sometimes just as another racer put their arms up in victory, not realizing that Steve was about to whiz by at the last second!!

In 1997, his last child was born and because of complications during delivery, she nearly died. As any parent would, he was in the waiting room begging for his child's life and promising to help others if she "could just live." Not only did this gorgeous girl live, but she was healthy and didn't suffer any disability from the trauma of her birth. Remembering the promise he made in the waiting room, Steve and a couple of his friends began doing annual rides to help children who were not so lucky by doing 1000K rides to raise money for handicapped children. The first year, they raised money for the children's wing of a local hospital. In subsequent years, they raised money for children with Down's Syndrome. The last ride he did in Australia raised over $10,000 and funded an entire summer program for Down's Syndrome Children!

Because of these rides, Steve understands the importance and benefits of massage. The team on these rides always included a massage therapist who worked the lactic acid out of the riders' legs each night so they were able to get up the next day and ride another long leg of the targeted distance. He has always admired massage therapy because of his experience as an athlete.

In 2002, Steve met his current American born wife, Lori, via the computer. After months of talking online and on the phone, they met in person and both knew they were in trouble! A year and a half after meeting, they were married in Arkansas  by her brother, a Methodist minister.

Steve's wife, Lori, and her four children moved to Australia to live. Things were crazy as between them, there are seven children. The two oldest are boys, the five after are girls! There are many funny stories of Lori trying to drive "on the other side of the road" and she commented that if one can drive across the Sydney Harbour Bridge at rush hour on the "other" side of the road, one can drive ANYWHERE!!

Unfortunately, the company for which Steve had worked for 15 years was sold and all employees were made redundant. It was at this time that Steve made the decision that, even though he loved his own country so much, his opportunity lay in another.

Steve, Lori, and her four children moved back to the USA in 2005. The hardest part of the move was leaving his Aussie children. During the time he was looking for employment, Steve decided to attend massage therapy school. He excelled at massage therapy to the point of being Valedictorian of this class with a 4.0 average! The funny thing is, Valedictorian is not something recognized in Australia, so when he called Lori to tell her of his honor... he didn't even know what it was! His news to her was "Lori, guess what! I'm the Victorian or some weird thing." Lori laughed and said, "Uhhhhh do you mean Valedictorian?" He gleefully answered, "Yeah, that's it! One of them!... uhhh, what IS a Victorian or whatever it was you said?" After finishing massage therapy school, he was finally able to gain full time employment with a company that manufacturers sub-sea equipment and has quickly  moved up the ranks to become a coordinator in less than a year. If you ask him, there are so many funny stories of Steve learning to drive in the USA!

Although massage therapy is an avocation, he loves helping others and has helped many people who have found that he has a talent for "working out kinks." Steve has had a lot of practice as his wife suffers from fibromyalgia and he has had to word hard to learn how to help her and "find knots." Because of his experience as a semi-pro athlete and being married to a fibromyalgia sufferer, Steve's specialty is therapeutic, deep tissue massage.

Steve is an upstanding family man, devoted husband, and someone who cares for others. It is his hope that he can help you, whether you just want a "feel good," relaxing massage or are in need of a "deep tissue" therapeutic massage. since each person is different, Steve approaches each person differently, rather than following a set "routine." He will individualize the massage to the needs of the client. His goal is to meet the individual needs of his clients.
